NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has extended the NEET UG admission till December 30 because medical seats are vacant in many places even after five rounds of counselling. A bench comprising justices BR Gavai and KV Viswanathan clarified yesterday that the action is a one-time solution. "Medical seats should not be wasted. There is shortage of doctors in the country. Special counseling can be done. No college should do direct admission. Admission should be through state admission authority only. It should be from the waiting list. Vacant NRI quota seats should be shifted to general category." The court order came after considering the petition filed by a section of students and medical management.
