Three Nagapattinam natives namely Rajkumar, Rajendran and Nagalingam were injured in the attack. The boat that came under attack was in the name of a man named Vijayakumar.

The pirates took away fishing nets and GPS equipment from the boat and left a damage of three lakh rupees. Rajendran and Raj Kumar received a cut on their head with machetes and are currently undergoing treatment.

Last August too, four people from Nagapattinam were attacked by Sri Lankan pirates. The robbers arrived in four boats and stole 700 kg of fishing nets, GPS devices, mobile phones, gold necklaces, and rings.
