KALPETTA: Widespread complaints against the draft list prepared for the rehabilitation of Mundakkai landslide victims. The allegation is that many deserving people have been left out and the unworthy have entered the list. The disaster victims came forward with complaints against the list which took the government months to prepare. There are only 388 people on the list prepared by the Sub-Collector of Mananthavadi for the first phase of rehabilitation. Around 200 people from the list prepared by the gram panchayat earlier were removed. The families who lost their homes in the disaster and the homeless who lived in rented houses were included in the first phase. However, many eligible beneficiaries are left out of the list. Disaster victims are worried that they will be removed from the list even though they have an opportunity to file a complaint within 15 days. Duplications are also rampant in the list. 70 people from the Mundakkai area and 65 people from Chooralmala have duplicated on the list. The list does not include those who lost their homes completely and lost their relatives.
Disaster victims protest
The disaster victims protested for several hours in front of the Joint Director at Meppadi, citing irregularities in the draft list. The protestors alleged that the list of beneficiaries was prepared without responsibility and it was tantamount to making a mockery of the disaster victims. The protest ended after ADM K Devaki reached the spot and held a discussion with the protesters.
