THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: "While working at Doordarshan, I often passed through Indira Nagar in Peroorkada. Perhaps I might have seen Indhu and her father back then," said director Shyamaprasad. Hearing this, Indhu Rebecca Varghese's father, Dr. George Varghese, nodded with a smile.
It was Shyamaprasad who played the role of Indhu's father in the Tamil film 'Amaran', based on the life of Major Mukund Varadarajan, a soldier who attained martyrdom at the age of 31 in Jammu and Kashmir in 2014. Mukund was posthumously awarded the Ashoka Chakra, India's highest peacetime military honour.
Recently, Kerala Kaumudi had reported about George Varghese's desire to meet Shyamaprasad, who portrayed him on screen.
Yesterday evening, George Varghese, his wife Akkaamma, and family friend Annamma Alexander visited Shyamaprasad at his flat in Kuravankonam. Their previous conversation had been over the phone, prior to filming, but this marked their first in-person encounter.
"Ever since watching the film, I had been eager to meet Shyamaprasad. He portrayed the character so beautifully. Many who saw the film told me they saw the George of the past on screen," George Varghese said.
In Amaran, Sai Pallavi played the role of Indhu while Sivakarthikeyan portrayed Mukund.
Kerala Kaumudi was the first to report about Indhu's family in Indira Nagar, Peroorkada. Dr George Varghese owns a private hospital in Peroorkada. Indhu is an English teacher in Sydney, and her daughter, Arsheya, is in seventh grade.
