KOZHIKODE: Thousands flocked for a glimpse of M T Vasudevan Nair, the doyen of Malayalam literature. People thronged to Sithara, MT's house on Kottaram Road in Nadakkavu. Many prominent figures from the political, literary and cultural fields are coming to pay homage to the departed soul.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Ministers Muhammed Riyas and A K Saseendran paid their last respects. Actor Mohanlal arrived before dawn to see MT, who gave birth to immortal characters in the film world. Director Hariharan also came to pay respects. He was very emotional seeing the body of MT.

CPM Central Committee member E P Jayarajan, Goa Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai, actor Suraj Venjaramoodu, actresses Durga Krishna and Kuttyedathi Vilasini also came to pay respects. M Mukundan also paid his respects.

President Draupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Lok Sabha Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi condoled MT's demise.

MT passed away at around 10 pm last night. He had been undergoing treatment at Baby Memorial Hospital in Kozhikode for the past few days. His last rites will be held at 5 pm today at the public crematorium on Mavoor Road in Kozhikode.
