THRISSUR: Thrissur Mayor M K Varghese said V S Sunil Kumar is trying to put the blame of his defeat in the Lok Sabha elections on someone else. Sunil Kumar is trying to make me join the BJP. Varghese said that he wants the Left to come to power again. I don’t have a friendly relationship with Surendran. Why is it necessary to make such a big controversy in offering me a cake, asked the mayor.

'I am one who is with the CPM. I don’t understand why dragging me into such childish matters. I am convinced that K Surendran came sincerely. I don’t understand the meaning of what Sunil Kumar said. I don’t understand what relationship Sunil Kumar has with Surendran. He should clarify why he went to Surendran’s house.

Prove Surendran has not come to Sunil Kumar's house. Let Sunil explain why he went to Surendran's house and why the latter came to his house. If Sunil Kumar can go to his friend's house, is it such a big problem that Surendran, who is not my friend, coming to my house with a cake? CPI councilor Sathish Kumar, who is with me knows that I have no relationship with Surendran. When a man who always won has lost, he wants to put the blame on someone else.

Is it possible for me to join the BJP just because Sunil Kumar thought like that? I want the Left to come to power again. I understand that Sunil Kumar is not interested in bringing development to Thrissur. Thrissur today is not like it was during his time. Thrissur has changed a lot. He is jealous of that,' alleged Varghese.

The controversy arose after the mayor accepted a cake offered by BJP president K Surendran amidst Sneha Sandesha Yatra on the Christmas day. Sunil Kumar came forward against this. Despite having so many mayors in Kerala, K Surendran giving cake to Thrissur mayor was part of a planned political move. He took a direct and indirect stance that helped the BJP candidate in the last Lok Sabha elections.
