NEW DELHI: The nation has bid adieu to former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, who passed away on Thursday night. The body was cremated with full state honours. He was laid to rest at Nigambodh Ghat at around 12.45 pm. Various political leaders attended his funeral.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Draupadi Murmu, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President J P Nadda, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and others. Congress leaders including Sonia Gandhi, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and K C Venugopal MP attended the funeral. In addition, King of Bhutan Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Mauritius Foreign Minister Dhananjay Ramful attended his funeral.

When the body was brought to the AICC headquarters from his residence on Motilal Road this morning for public viewing, there was a long queue of leaders and workers for a last glimpse of Manmohan Singh. Later, the body was taken to Nigambodh Ghat in a cortege.

Meantime, a week-long mourning has been declared in the country in connection with the demise of Manmohan Singh. All official government programmes have been cancelled. There were disputes over the land for Manmohan Singh's memorial. However, the Center has assured that land will be allotted.
