KOCHI: The producers' association said that the actors should be prepared to lower their remuneration. Producers pointed out that there is a situation where the cost of production of films needs to be reduced and the fact that the actors do not reduce the remuneration is a big problem. The organization stated that it is imperative to cut costs as most of the films released are flops.

The organization also criticized the actors for increasing their remuneration instead of reducing it. A total of 199 new films were released in theatres from January to December 2024. Five old films were remastered and released. However, only 26 films performed as super hits, hits and average hits. The rest left the theatres without creating any impact, the organization said.

According to the organization, a total of 1000 crores was spent on 199 films and only a profit of 300 crores was made. 700 crores loss happened to the film industry from the rest of the films. Producers also said that Malayalam cinema will be in crisis if the actors do not reduce their remuneration. The response of the producers' organization was through a press release. Five films earned 100 crores this year. Films like Manjummel Boys, Premalu, Aadujeevitham: The Goat Life, Aavesham and ARM (Ajayante Randam Moshanam) crossed the 100 crore mark.
