MELBOURNE: The 21-year-old Nitish Kumar Reddy became an instant sensation after his 'saviour act' with the bat in MCG. Reddy scored a maiden century (105 not out), pulling out India from a humiliating defeat. The 83,000 spectators in the gallery gave a standing ovation as Nitish completed his century by driving fast bowler Boland to a mid-on boundary.
Nitish's father Muthyala Reddy, who had to quit his job to support his son's passion, was in tears at the stands when Nitish scored his maiden century. Nitish, a native of Visakhapatnam, who made his debut in the Perth Test, has performed well so far. Nitish is also India's top scorer in the series.
