THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Police have registered a case under non-bailable sections against former CPM area secretary Madhu Mullassery who left the party and joined the BJP. The Mangalapuram police registered the case on the complaint lodged by the CPM. Madhu has been charged with fraud and breach of trust.

Madhu, the CPM area secretary, walked out of the area conference on December 1 and later joined the BJP. In the complaint filed with the police, the CPM accused Madhu of embezzling the money collected for the area conference.

According to the CPM, Madhu should repay Rs 4.80 lakhs, which was collected by the local secretaries. Area Secretary Jaleel Attingal filed a complaint with the DYSP after contractors complained that they hadn't received the remaining payment for providing microphone sets, tents, and decorations for the conference held in Pothencode. CPM District Secretary V Joy stated that local secretaries have filed complaints at respective police stations. According to the CPM's complaint, Madhu has allegedly collected lakhs of rupees from various individuals and institutions.
