suicide-attempt

IRINJALAKUDA: The Deputy Nursing Superintendent at Irinjalakuda General Hospital attempted to take her own life, accusing the superintendent of mentally harassing her by denying her leave. Deena John (51), a native of Perambra, attempted suicide by taking in an excessive amount of pills at the superintendent’s office on Saturday. However, she was able to consume only a few pills as her colleague snatched the pills from her.

Deena had applied for a three-day leave for Christmas. However, the superintendent reportedly denied her leave and told her she must attend the hospital’s Christmas celebrations. After Deena took the leave against instructions, the superintendent issued a memo and called her into the office. The superintendent then insulted her saying that her explanation was unsatisfactory. It is alleged that there is not enough nursing staff in the hospital. Police have not registered a case due to the absence of a complaint. Deena was discharged from the hospital after seeking primary treatment.
