KOCHI: Thrikakkara MLA Uma Thomas sustained serious injuries after falling from a height of approximately 18 feet from the VIP gallery at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kaloor. She has been admitted to Renai Medcity in Palarivattom, where she remains unconscious on a ventilator. The fall caused severe injuries, including a brain haemorrhage due to a head injury, blood clots in the lungs, and fractures to the spine, ribs, facial bones, and leg. However, doctors have stated that emergency surgery is not currently required.

Renai Medical Director Dr Krishnanunni Polakulath, neurosurgeon Dr Michel Joby, and orthopaedic surgeon Dr Babu Joseph said that a decision on further treatment will be made after 24 hours of observation.

The incident occurred during a Bharatanatyam performance led by actress and dancer Divya Unni, featuring 12,600 dancers aiming for a Guinness World Record. The event was organized by Mridanga Vision magazine based in Wayanad. The event continued despite the accident, sparking criticism.

Uma fell from the stage at around 6:30 PM in full view of the dignitaries, including the chief guest, Minister Saji Cherian. Bleeding heavily, she was rushed to the hospital in the stadium’s ambulance.
