ABU DHABI: As the world prepares to welcome the new year, reports say that some expatriates in the UAE are caught in a muddle. Reports suggest that some of the expatriates are suffering psychological stress, for being away from their close ones during the festive months.

Some reports from the UAE state that expatriates who do not have friends or relatives alongside them during this Christmas season are giving up on celebrations. The newly arrived expatriates in UAE would have to go through severe mental stress adapting to the new lifestyle, all the while watching their colleagues celebrating the festive season with their families. The new arrivals also want to celebrate but have no group to join in.

Watching social media reels and videos of their friends and family celebrating Christmas at home can also drag them to gloom, says the report. The government has prepared a wide range of programs in the UAE as part of the New Year celebrations. The main attraction is the Burj Khalifa fireworks display. Tens of thousands come to the UAE every year to enjoy the laser light show. Dinner parties at various places are also a part of the celebrations. There are also underwater dinner parties.

Dubai Opera and Global Village artists are also highlights of New Year's Eve celebrations in the UAE.
