KANNUR: The jail department granted 30 days parole to Kodi Suni serving punishment in the T P Chandrasekharan murder case. Kodi Suni was released from Thavanur Jail on the parole granted after considering his mother’s plea. The human rights commission first submitted the plea. In the commission's letter, permission was given by the Jail DGP. It is reported that Jail DGP Balram Kumar Upadhyay took a favorable decision even after the probation report of the police opposed it. The jail released him on Saturday.

Kodi Suni is the main accused in the T P murder case. He is getting parole now after five years. In the T P case, Kodi Suni is accused of planning kidnapping and robbery and assaulting prison officials in jail. So, the prison and home departments had decided not to grant him parole, which he was getting normally. The Jail DGP has cancelled that decision now.

Kodi Suni's mother had filed a complaint before the human rights commission pointing that her son was not being granted parole. Commission member Baijunath directed the jail chief and Thavanur jail superintendent to take steps to protect Suni's human rights. Usually when a prisoner is granted parole, the police and probation reports are examined. The superintendent will normally grant parole if both these reports are favorable. If the report is not favourable, it will be sent to the jail DGP. The jail DGP will then decide on the parole. Kodi Suni was transferred from Viyyur High Security Jail to Malappuram Thavanur Central Jail last year.
