KOLLAM: The jail department has granted 30 days parole to Kiran Kumar, accused in the suicide case of Vismaya, an ayurveda medical student. The police and the probation reports were against Kiran in the first plea filed. In the second plea, the probation report was favorable but the police report was negative. The jail chief considered the application later and granted parole for 30 days. The Kollam First Additional Sessions Court had sentenced Kiran to 10 years imprisonment in the case.
Kiran was granted parole with strict conditions like he should not see the witnesses in the case and should not go near the premises of Vismaya's house. The charges of dowry death, dowry harassment, incitement to suicide, harassment, intimidation and demanding dowry have been imposed against Kiran. The prosecution argued that Kiran had continuously harassed Vismaya leading to her death.
Vismaya, wife of assistant motor vehicle inspector Kiran Kumar, was found hanging on June 21, 2021, in the toilet adjacent to their bedroom in Poruvazhy. WhatsApp messages and pictures sent to Vismaya's classmate and sister-in-law about the harassment had surfaced. After taking Vismaya to the hospital, Kiran Kumar, who was on the run, surrendered at the Shasthamcota station. Kiran was later terminated from service. Under the supervision of IG Harshita Attaluri, the investigation was completed within 90 days and the charge sheet was submitted.
The Supreme Court had granted bail to Kiran when the trial reached its final stage. In addition to the attacks at home, there are testimonies that Kiran Kumar created trouble by asking for a new car on August 29, 2020 in public at Chittumala and on January 3, 2021 at Vismaya's house. Phone conversations on dowry dispute have also been accepted as evidence by the court.
