KALPETTA: More details have emerged in the incident where Wayanad DCC treasurer and his son died after consuming poison. The initial findings of the police are that DCC treasurer N M Vijayan had financial liabilities. An investigation has started to find more information in this regard.
The police collected diaries from the house for examination. They also recorded statements from family members and others. The family had given statements that they are not aware of the reason for the suicide.
N M Vijayan (78) and his son Jijesh (28) died after consuming poison at their Manichirakkal house. Both were in a weak condition after consuming poison on the evening of December 24.
They were admitted to a private hospital in Bathery, but were later shifted to Kozhikode Medical College after their condition deteriorated. Jijesh died at 6.30 pm on Friday and N M Vijayan died at 8.30 pm.
Vijayan had served as the president, vice president, municipal councilor and convenor of the administrative committee of the Sultan Bathery Grama Panchayat. Jijesh, who had previously served as a temporary employee in the Cooperative Urban Bank, is unmarried. Vijayan’s wife Suma had predeceased him. Vijesh is the couple’s another son.
