SANA'A: Premakumari, the mother of Nimisha Priya, a Malayali nurse imprisoned in Yemen for the murder of a Yemeni citizen, has appealed for help to secure her daughter's release. With very few days left, Premakumari urged everyone to come forward and assist in saving her daughter from the death penalty.

She expressed gratitude to all who have supported her efforts to save her daughter so far. The Yemeni President had granted permission yesterday for the execution of Nimisha Priya’s death sentence within a month. Earlier, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs had assured that it would take all possible for Nimisha Priya's release.

Nimisha Priya has been imprisoned in Sana’a, the capital of Yemen, since 2017 in connection with the murder of Yemeni citizen Talal Abdo Mahdi. She is the wife of Tommy Thomas, a native of Thodupuzha.

According to Nimisha Priya, the murder occurred because Talal Abdo Mahdi, who had initially promised to help her set up her own clinic while she was working as a nurse, confiscated her passport and subjected her to brutal harassment.

The only way to save Nimisha Priya from execution is to pay Diya (blood money) to Talal’s family. Premakumari had travelled to Yemen to meet Talal’s family and personally plead for forgiveness. She held discussions with Talal's family and tribal leaders but was unable to reach a resolution. Premakumari remains in Yemen, continuing her efforts.
