MANGALURU: The court has awarded a huge amount as compensation to a woman bitten by a bug from the seat she was sitting. The Dakshina Kannada District Consumer Commission ordered to pay Rs 1.29 lakh as compensation to Deepika Suvarna of Mangaluru. The owner of the bus and the Red Bus app through which she booked the ticket should jointly pay the compensation.

Deepika and her husband booked a bus ticket from Mangaluru to Bengaluru through the Red Bus app. The couple’s journey was in the private bus Sea Bird. The two were going to attend a reality show on a Kannada channel. As soon as she entered the bus, she found the bus as unhygienic. She suffered itching the whole night and could not sleep at all.

Although she complained to the staff, they did not pay heed to it. She then filed a complaint with the commission. Her complaint said that she suffered due to bug bites and there was swelling on her body. This affected her performance in the reality show and due to this, her remuneration was significantly reduced.

The court then ordered to pay the complainant Rs 1.29 lakh as compensation, including Rs 10,000 in legal costs, Rs 850 in ticket costs, and a fine of Rs 18,650.
