The truck was driven at high speed into the crowd causing an accident. Reuters reports that the driver then came out with a gun and started shooting. Eyewitnesses stated that the police, who reached the spot immediately, clashed with the shooter.

The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals. New Orleans police have reported that some people were injured because a car that was hit by the truck rammed into the crowd. New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell called it a terrorist attack. She also explained the situation at the place. However, the investigating officers who reached the spot, including the police, clarified that the incident was not a terrorist attack. They have also clarified that the FBI will take over the case.
