Arun, a resident of Kottayam, a friend of the slain Livin, filed a complaint with the police stating that the reason for the murder was the questioning of the accused's use of intoxicants at Thekkinkadu Maidan. East police registered a case based on this complaint.

The FIR also states that the 14-year-old attacked with the intention of murder. They were also charged with gang murder. Livin Davis (30) was stabbed to death by the fourteen-year-old. However, the police said that they stabbed Livin with the knife they had in their possession during the argument. The police also confirmed that the knife used to kill Livin belonged to the fourteen-year-old. It is said that the two got into a verbal argument with Livin, who questioned them about seeing girls with the accused and stabbed him in the neck in anger. Livin was rushed to the district general hospital but died. East Police is investigating the case.
