KANNUR: The preliminary report of the Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) said the school bus that met with an accident in Kannur had no technical glitch. MVD found that there was no glitch in the brake and engine. The cause of the accident is suspected to be the negligence of the driver. The Sreekandapuram police have registered a case against the driver under sections 281 (rash driving or riding on a public way), 125 (A) (endangering human life or personal safety due to negligence or recklessness), and 106 (1) (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. MVI official Riyas said there is a possibility of distraction due to the use of phone. Further investigation will be done in this regard. It is concluded that the unscientifically constructed road is also the cause of the accident. The MVD will conduct a detailed investigation into the incident.
A school bus lost control and overturned on the Anganwadi road near the Valakkai bridge on the Thaliparambu-Sreekandapuram state highway. Nedhya S Rajesh, a fifth standard who died in the accident, will be cremated today. After the post-mortem at Pariyaram Government Medical College Hospital, the body will be taken to Chinmaya UP School in Kurumathur, where she studied, for the students to pay homage. Majority of the 18 students injured in the accident have been discharged from the hospital. Driver Nizam and ayaah Sulochana are undergoing treatment at Thaliparambu taluk hospital.
The incident occurred near the Valakkai Bridge when the bus lost control on a slope and overturned twice after hitting a nearby wall. Nedhya, who was in the front seat of the bus, was thrown out from the bus and crushed under the wheels. The locals lifted the bus and rushed her to the hospital but her life could not be saved. The bus was over-speeded.
