THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department warned of a temperature rise above normal in Kerala on January 2 and 3. The Meteorological Department gave the possibility of a temperature rise of 2 to 1 degree Celsius. Hot and humid weather is likely to prevail in the state in the coming days.

State Disaster Management Authority has issued an alert for the public as high heat is reported in the state. According to the warning, high heat can cause many serious health problems such as sunstroke, sunburn and dehydration.

• Avoid direct exposure to direct sunlight during the day between 11 am and 3 pm.

• Drink as much fresh water as possible. Keep drinking water even if you are not thirsty.

• Assemblies and other events in schools that expose children to excessive sunlight should be avoided or rescheduled. Schools taking children on field trips ensure that children are not exposed to direct heat between 11 am and 3 pm.

• Always keep a small bottle of drinking water handy to prevent dehydration.
