KOCHI: 19.92 lakh cases are pending across the courts in the state, including the High Court. Of these, 2.52 lakh cases are pending in the High Court, and 17.39 lakh in the District, Magistrate, and Munsiff courts.
While efforts are being made to resolve cases, the increasing number of new cases being filed daily remains a challenge. There are 67,756 cases older than ten years. Of these, 36,693 cases are in the High Court, and 31,063 are in the lower courts.
200,000 civil cases and 52,159 criminal cases are still awaiting verdicts in the High Court. The situation is equally dire in lower courts, where 522,000 civil and 12.17 lakh criminal cases await resolution. Among these, 132,000 cases involve senior citizens, and 194,000 cases involve women.
Highest number of pending cases in Thiruvananthapuram
Thiruvananthapuram has the highest number of pending cases, while Wayanad has the fewest. Thiruvananthapuram has a total of 3.75 lakh pending cases, including 87,751 civil cases and 287,295 criminal cases. In contrast, Wayanad has 25,949 cases awaiting resolution, with 6,114 civil cases and 19,835 criminal cases.
