SYDNEY: The Australian batting lineup got exposed in front of a fierce Indian bowling attack in the fifth test of the Border-Gavaskar trophy on Saturday. The bowling masterclass came even in the absence of captain Bumrah, now sidelined due to an injury. On the second day, Australia continued to bat and fought for the lead but could not hold on. Currently, India has increased the lead by four runs. Score: India- 185, Australia 181.

The Aussies lost nine wickets on the second day. Marnus Labuschagne was the first to be dismissed for just two runs. Mohammad Siraj dismissed Sam Konstas for 23 runs and then Travis Head, who scored just four runs. At one stage, Australia were 39 for the loss of four wickets. The struggling Aussies soon received the boost through the vital 56-run partnership between Steve Smith and Webster. Webster also scored his maiden half-century off 105 balls.

India’s new addition Prasidh Krishna was on duty to end the vital partnership after dismissing Smith. Prasidh then went for a rout taking the wicket of Alex Carey. With skipper Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Webster out in the next overs, the collapse of Australia was complete.
