KOCHI: The police said there is no mystery in the incident where medical student Fathimath Shahana (21), died after falling from her hostel building. The FIR said she fell in between the corridor and the wall. Fathimath fell from the building at 11 pm last night and died at 2 am.

The initial conclusion is that Fathimath may have fallen accidentally while sitting on the handrail of the verandah. Police said they will also examine whether there was a safety lapse. Fathimath lived in the room on the fifth floor. The accident occurred in the corridor on the top floor of the seven-storied hostel building. Other students were also there when the incident occurred. It is believed that Fathimath may have slipped and fallen accidentally while talking with her friends.

There are iron handrails in the corridor. The fire safety systems installed nearby were covered with gypsum board. Police said it is possible that she may have accidentally fell down after breaking the gypsum board while sitting on the handrails. The police said the sides of the corridor on the seventh floor of the hostel were not safe. Investigating officers are continuing their inspection in the college hostel. Her body has been shifted to the medical college hospital for postmortem.
