MALAPPURAM: The forest department will take over the family of Mani, the adivasi youth killed in the wild elephant attack in Karulai. Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) informed that Mani's wife will be given a temporary job in the forest department.
The forest department will also bear the medical expenses of his elder daughter who is disabled. Mani (35) of Poochappara Colony at Karulai in Malappuram was killed in the wild elephant attack last night. The South Wayanad DFO announced that financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh will be provided to Mani's family at the earliest.
Mani's children are staying in the tribal hostel and studying. The elephant attacked Mani while he was returning after leaving his children in the tribal hostel. When the elephant attacked Mani, his five-year-old son was with him. He was saved after he fell down.
The children present there informed Mani's brother Ayyappan. It was a setback as there was no mobile network. Ayyappan reached the spot, carried injured Mani for one and a half kilometers and walked. After bringing him to Kannakkai having transportation facilities, he was taken out of the forest in a jeep. He died on the way to the hospital.
