NILAMBUR: After an hour of drama that saw police stationing near PV Anvar’s residence, the Nilambur MLA was arrested by police on Sunday night amidst furore from DMK supporters. The MLA responded to the arrest as a 'state-sponsored hooliganism' meted out at the instructions of the chief minister.

“I will show you the real game after coming out from custody,” Anvar said before being accosted by police. Meanwhile, DMK supporters are widely protesting the arrest of the MLA, shouting slogans against the Chief Minister.

A case has been registered against 11 people including the MLA in this incident. The case is under sections including obstruction of duty, and destruction to public property.

A large police force, under the leadership of Nilambur CI Sunil Pallikal, earlier stationed outside the residence of the MLA. Many DMK workers were also present in the area while DySP Balakrishnan reached the spot and entered the house amidst a big protest.

On Sunday, the DMK workers protested at the Nilambur Forest office against the death of a youth, trampled by a wild tusker. The protest led by Anvar MLA later turned violent which saw the DMK workers vandalizing the office property.
