SANAA: The Yemen embassy has informed that Yemen president has not approved the execution of Malayali nurse Nimisha Priya in the case of killing a Yemeni citizen. Yemen President Rashad Al-Alimi has not approved her death penalty. The Yemen embassy in Delhi has clarified that the death penalty was approved by the leader of the Houthi Supreme Political Council, Mehdi Al-Mashad.
Mashhad is described as the rebel president. The crime for which Nimisha Priya is accused happened in Houthi-controlled northern Yemen. The prison where Nimisha is being held is located in Houthi-controlled territory.
The trial court had in 2017 sentenced Nimisha Priya to death in the case of killing Yemeni citizen Talal Abdul Mahdi. The only way to save Nimisha Priya was to give blood money to Talal's family. Nimisha Priya's mother Prema Kumari is in Yemen to meet Talal's family in person and apologize. Negotiations were held with Talal's family and tribal leaders, but these negotiations failed. Prema Kumari is still in Yemen.
Nimisha Priya is the wife of Tommy Thomas of Thodupuzha. Nimisha Priya claimed that she murdered Talal Abdu Mahdi, who had come to her with the promise of helping her start her own clinic while she was working as a nurse, then confiscated her passport and brutally tortured her.
