CHENNAI: HMPV (Human Metapneumovirus) has been confirmed in Chennai, following its detection in Bengaluru and Ahmedabad. The infection was identified in two children hospitalized due to issues such as cough and respiratory distress. The health department has informed that the children are recovering. With this, the total number of confirmed cases in India has risen to five. In Ahmedabad, the virus was detected in a two-month-old baby, while in Bengaluru, it was confirmed in infants aged three and eight months.

Meanwhile, health experts have clarified that there is no need to panic about the HMPV virus. They explained that it is a common viral infection typically observed during the winter season. Such cases are reported every year, especially during the months of July, August, December, and January. Patients generally experience discomfort similar to that caused by the common cold, according to health experts.
