It has not been long since the world went through the threat of COVID. No one likes to remember the hardships, sufferings and isolation experienced by the people at that time. Therefore, the news of another virus outbreak will naturally create concern among the people. Moreover, the false campaign on social media that it originated from China has also caused people to panic. In the beginning, the news spread in the manner of "A new virus is taking hold in China - HMPV or Human Metapneumo Virus". China is a country where the real information about the covid is still hidden. Therefore, the common people thought that China has released a new virus to scare the world.
News that two babies in Bengaluru were infected with this virus came in the meantime. After this, two cases were reported in Chennai and one in Ahmedabad. It was then that the Union Health Ministry stated that the virus is already present in India and there is no need to worry. Such explanations and awareness should have been given by the authorities when such news started spreading on social media itself. Experts now say that there is nothing to worry about because this is a virus that has been reported in our country for ages. It mostly affects young children. It is treatable and curable. It can also affect adults. It is a cold-causing virus.
The HMP virus works by infecting the nose and throat. So people may misunderstand it as the spread of COVID again. Like other viral diseases, it is spread through close contact. So it is better to take some precautions like using a mask. People with other serious diseases should be more careful. In short, caution is needed, not panic. There is currently no specific antiviral drug for HMP virus. It is a disease that resolves by itself within a week. However, the Union Health Ministry should think about finding new vaccines in case there is a large-scale epidemic.
A three-month-old baby girl from Bengaluru has recovered from the disease. The ten-month-old baby boy is recovering well. So everyone should be careful not to spread unnecessary misunderstandings in society regarding this. People who are not knowledgeable about such matters should refrain from commenting. It can be thought that paying more attention to hygiene will help to keep such viruses away. Avoid hospital visits, public gatherings, etc. as much as possible, and do take precautions such as cleaning hands with sanitiser or soapy water. The authorities should also take steps to disinfect hospitals for babies, mothers etc. It is best to avoid trips with small children.
