KOTTAYAM: Apu John Joseph was appointed as Kerala Congress State Chief Coordinator. The hitherto unknown post was created all of a sudden to bring Apu, son of party chairman PJ Joseph, to the leadership position. The decision was taken at the high power committee meeting held in Kottayam on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Joseph.

Meanwhile, MP Joseph, son-in-law of KM Mani, has been selected as the Vice Chairman of the Joseph Group. Reji Cherian, Thomas M. Mathunni, Mohanan Pillai, Adv. Joseph John Joseph Mullanmada were also assigned the vice-chairman post. TU Kuruvila was made the Deputy Chairman.

With his new role, Apu will join the bandwagon of K.M. Mani's son Jose K. Mani, TM Jacob's son Anoop Jacob, Balakrishna Pillai's son Ganesh Kumar, PC George's son Shaun George, and KM George's son Francis George, to enter into the political arena of Kerala as another heir.

Mons Joseph was appointed as the executive chairman after a dispute broke out when PC Thomas became the working chairman. Apart from them, Apu comes as the fifth, but as Joseph's successor, he will be the next in line to be the party chief.

Joseph, suffering from age-related ailments, may step aside and make Apu a candidate in Thodupuzha in the next assembly elections. In the 2021 assembly elections, there was a plan to field Apu in Thiruvambady, a stronghold of the UDF, but the league did not give up the seat.
