KANNUR: The family, who went to purchase wedding clothes for their only son’s marriage fixed two years ago, returned with his mother's lifeless body. Thomas' wife K T Beena (48) of Kannur and his nephew A A Lijo (37), a resident of Mangaluru, died in the road accident. The accident happened while they were returning after purchasing wedding clothes for the couple’s only son Albin.

Albin, who works in Poland, reached home on Christmas Day for his wedding. The engagement was fixed on January 11 and wedding on January 18th. Lijo had come to attend the wedding. The accident occurred while he was returning from Ernakulam after buying clothes, including wedding clothes. The Lakshya bus going from Iritty to Thalassery collided with the car going to Iritty from Mattanur. The locals immediately took Thomas, Beena, Albin and Lijo, passengers of the car, to the hospital, but the lives of two of them could not be saved.

The accident occurred when the family, who had traveled more than 600 kilometers, was only 25 kilometers away from reaching home. Eyewitnesses said the car was at a very high speed. The injured were taken out after breaking the doors of the car. Beena's last rites will be held in the courtyard where her daughter-in-law was to step in. She will be laid to rest at 9 am on Friday at the cemetery of Kalanki St Joseph's Church. The injured Albin and his father Thomas are undergoing treatment in the hospital.
