PALAKKAD: Housewife who tried to commit suicide by setting herself on fire fearing foreclosure of property, has succumbed to death. Jaya (48), native of Kizhayur, died in Thrissur Medical College Hospital. The incident took place this afternoon at Palakkad Pattambi. Officials from the Co-operative Urban Bank in Shornur had reached Jaya's house for foreclosure proceedings. This is when she attempted suicide by pouring kerosene on herself. Jaya was taken to Thrissur Medical College Hospital with severe burns. She had 80 percent burns.

Pattambi police and Tehsildar reached the spot and suspended the foreclosure proceedings following the incident. Jaya and her family had taken a loan of two lakh rupees from the bank in 2015 but the repayment was delayed. With this, the bank authorities proceeded with the foreclosure process. The explanation of the bank officials is that proper warning was given and they came for the foreclosure process by following the procedures.
