THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The police opened the burial crypt of Gopan Swami, where his family claimed that he attained Samadhi. The body was found in a sitting position inside the crypt. There were bhasmam and medicinal ayurvedic powders around the body. The inquest proceedings have been completed. The body was in a decomposed state. Many including the surgeon is in the place.
The body was taken to the medical college hospital. The proceedings are progressing under the control of Thiruvananthapuram sub-collector O V Alfred. The police had started the proceedings in the morning itself. The roads to the place were closed. The area was completely evacuated within a 200-meter radius, roped off and barricaded, and the police took control of the area. Forensic experts are also there.
The district administration and police took action after the high court rejected the family's request to stay the RDO's order to open and inspect the crypt yesterday. The internal organs will be sent for chemical testing. It will then be decided as what to do with the body.
