THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Thampy, who demolished the burial crypt of Neyyattinkara Gopan Swami, said the body was decomposed in a small manner. He said the sub inspector called him to demolish the crypt. He said Swamy’s whole body was in a swollen condition and the body was in padmasana posture.
Thampy said, ‘I tied the tarpaulin around the samadhi. That's how the inspector called me to demolish the crypt. The slab on the top was demolished first. I could see Swami sitting. When moved two slabs on the sides, it was covered in bhasma. The body was found in a padmasana posture. It had started to decompose in a small manner. However, there were no problems in the area smeared in Bhasma. The entire body was swollen. A councilor fainted seeing this.’
The police clarified that there was nothing unusual in his death. After making elaborate security arrangements since morning, the demolition began at 7:15 in the morning. The inquest was completed in one and a half hours and the body was later taken for the postmortem. Samples of the internal organs have been sent for chemical testing.
Meanwhile, Gopan Swamy's son came forward claiming that his father had attained Samadhi. The family's lawyer also clarified that the police acted hastily and that legal action will be taken. The body will be taken to Neyyattinkara as the postmortem has been completed. The body will be kept in a private hospital. The relatives said that he will be laid to rest tomorrow.
