KOCHI: Rithu Jayan (27) accused in the Chendamangalam murders revealed the reason for committing the crime. He told police that he attacked them in a fit of rage after they made fun of him and his family. The accused is presently in the custody of the Vadakkekkara police.
The initial conclusion of the police is that Rithu was not intoxicated at the time of the murder. He was subjected to a medical examination on Thursday night. His blood samples have been sent for testing. Rithu Jayan, who worked as a construction worker in Bengaluru, reached home the other day. Rithu, who was on his bike, was stopped by the police. The police showed hands as he was smoking and riding the bike and was also not wearing a helmet.
Rithu then stopped the bike and without any hesitation told police that he had killed four people. However, there were no blood stains on his clothes, who attacked four with a metal rod and a knife. Rithu was then taken to the Vadakkekkara police station and he behaved calmly. He answered the questions asked.
His neighbors had filed a complaint against Rithu last November, accusing him of annoying them. However, the police did not take any action on it. Although he was summoned, Rithu was released on the assurance of his father that would provide him mental treatment. The police informed that he was monitored at regular intervals as he was involved in the goonda list.
The heinous murders that shook the place were committed around 6 pm on Thursday. Pereppadam Kattiparambil Venu (69), his wife Usha (62) and daughter Vinisha (32) were beaten to death by the attacker. Vinisha's husband Jithin Bose (35) was beaten on his head and has been admitted to a private hospital at Cheranallur in Ernakulam in a critical condition. He is on ventilator in a very critical condition.
