MUMBAI: Actor Saif Ali Khan, who was stabbed during an attack at his Bandra residence, is showing significant improvement in his condition. He has been moved from the intensive care unit to a private room. It was Dr Nitin Dange of Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital who shared this update, bringing relief to his fans. The actor has been advised a week of complete rest to prevent infection in the deep wound on his back.
Meanwhile, the Maharashtra government confirmed that the attack was not linked to the underworld. The attacker has no underworld affiliations, and the actor has not reported any prior threats, said Minister of State for Home Affairs Yogesh Kadam. The police had initially suspected the involvement of the Bishnoi gang in the attack. The police have intensified their search for the assailant, dividing into 20 teams.
The attack occurred at 2:30 AM on Thursday. Saif sustained six stab wounds, including deep injuries to his arms and neck. A two-and-a-half-inch-long blade fragment was removed from his spine during a five-hour surgery. Doctors stated that if the blade had gone two millimetres deeper, the consequences could have been severe. Fortunately, there is no current risk of paralysis.
Suspect released after questioning
Although the Mumbai Police detained a man whose appearance matched the description of the attacker, they later released him after questioning. Initial reports claiming the suspect had been caught were later withdrawn. CCTV footage showing the man being brought to the Bandra Police Station has already spread widely.
Domestic staff under suspicion?
The attack occurred on the 11th floor of Saif's residence. CCTV footage from 1:37 AM on Thursday shows the assailant climbing the fire escape to reach the upper floor. The attacker, with a red towel covering his face and a bag slung over his shoulder, can also be seen fleeing after the incident. Police suspect that someone among Saif's domestic staff might have links to the attacker. Reports suggest that some staff members are currently in custody for questioning.
