THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department has warned that there is a possibility of rain with thunder and strong winds in Kerala today and tomorrow. IMD said that there is a possibility of light rain at isolated places in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Idukki districts in the next three hours.

A cyclonic circulation is located over the southwest Bay of Bengal. Easterly winds are also likely to strengthen over South India in the coming days. Along with this, there is the presence of MJO (Madden Julian Oscillation) in the Arabian Sea and La NiƱa in the Pacific Ocean. It is raining in Kerala due to these reasons.

IMD has announced yellow alert in various districts. A yellow alert has been announced in Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam districts tomorrow. A chance of isolated heavy rain is forecast. Heavy rains mean rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours.


The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Research Center has informed that as part of the Kallakkadal phenomenon, there is a possibility of sea storm due to high waves of 0.3 to 0.7 meters till 11.30 tonight on the Kerala coast. Fishermen and coastal residents need to be alert as there is a possibility of sea attack. However, IMD has informed that there will be no disruption to fishing in the Kerala-Karnataka-Lakshadweep coasts today.
