Donald Trump has taken office as the 47th President of the United States. Trump will be stronger this time than his first term in 2017 because the Republican Party has the upper hand in the House of Representatives and the Senate. Trump signalled his strength to the world even before taking office by making a decisive intervention to end the Gaza war. It is also important to note that Trump did not warn Israel or Hamas to stop the war, but Qatar. The world should learn from this that any war will end itself when the flow of money is closed. Trump has already revealed that he will try to end the war in Ukraine. Along with that, he said that peace will be restored in the Central Asian region and the possibility of a third world war will be prevented.

It can be assumed that Trump, who is basically a businessman, is giving importance to a world without war during the next four years of his administration. Trump has declared that the biggest problem the United States is facing is related to illegal immigration, and therefore he will deport all those who are in the United States without adequate documentation. Hundreds of thousands of Indians are already working in US tech companies and the like. As of 2023, it is estimated that around 7.5 lakh Indians are living illegally in the US. The process of expelling all of them at once will not be favourable for India. India should proactively adopt measures to prevent this at the diplomatic level. Observers have generally assessed that Trump is a leader who wants to have good relations with India.

Trump will also focus on improving the economic situation of the United States. If Trump is willing to increase import duties to reverse the decline in the dollar, it will be a decision that will make it difficult for countries like China, Canada and Japan, which are the largest importers of the United States. Trump has said during the election campaign that he would impose additional tariffs on Chinese goods, but it remains to be seen how far it will go. If Trump imposes heavy tariffs on Chinese goods, it could allow India to become an alternative investment hub in Asia. If that happens, there will be a big change in the Indian economy. This will lead to more pressure on the stock market, higher inflation, and thus a more elevated price rise.

The stand on H1B visas taken by billionaire Elon Musk, who played a key role in Trump's success, is good for India. Musk's position is to retain and attract tech-savvy people. India hopes that this position will influence Trump. It is reassuring for India that Trump has adopted a policy of discouraging anti-India attitudes in Pakistan and Bangladesh so far. Trump's second coming may turn out to be history-making if he tries to make America great without harming the rest of the world.
