ABU DHABI: Nowadays, everyone is obsessed with junk food. People even travel long distances in search of new and unique flavours to satisfy their cravings. The consumption of junk food is increasing significantly, even among small children. In this context, the Department of Education and Knowledge in Abu Dhabi has made a crucial decision to promote healthier eating habits among students.
Foods that contain artificial additives for flavour enhancement and those with low nutritional value have been banned in schools and canteens. Additionally, students have been prohibited from bringing food from outside into schools during working hours. Through this initiative, the Department of Education and Knowledge aims to instil good eating habits in school children. This measure is part of efforts to ensure nutritional value and health safety.
Schools have been directed to ensure that food offered in school canteens is nutritionally rich. It has also been mandated that a special license be obtained to operate canteens within school campuses, and proper documentation and inspection reports must be maintained. Furthermore, the department has requested schools to establish mechanisms to monitor whether students are consuming healthy food during breaks.
