Yesterday, the price of one sovereign of gold was Rs 59,600. This is the first time the price of gold has crossed Rs 60,000.

Gold prices have been increasing in the state since the beginning of January, with only minor fluctuations. On January 1, the price of gold was Rs 57,200, which climbed to Rs 59,000 within two weeks. Now, after three weeks, it has crossed the Rs 60,000 mark. Globally, the sharp rise in the value of the dollar and the depreciation of the Indian rupee have contributed to the increase in gold prices. Meanwhile, there has been no change in the price of silver in the state. Today, the price of one gram of silver remains Rs 104, and the price of one kilogram of silver is Rs 104,000.

Today, one has to spend approximately Rs 65,150 to purchase one sovereign of gold. This amount includes labour charges, 3% GST, and hallmark charges (Rs 53.10). Similarly, the cost of one gram of gold would be around Rs 8,190. Minor variations in gold prices may occur at different jewellery stores, depending on changes in labour charges.
