KANNUR: KSU State Vice President Muhammed Shammas has alleged that former Kannur District Panchayat president PP Divya, who resigned in connection with the suicide of ADM Naveen Babu, bought land in the name of her husband via benami deals while in power. It was also alleged that the contracts of the district panchayat worth crores of rupees were given to a benami company called Carton India Alliance. Documents including this have been released.

The company was formed on July 20, 2021, after Divya became the Kannur District Panchayat president. MD is Divya's close friend and local Muhammad Asif. About four acres of land was bought at Palakkayam, a prominent tourist centre in Kannur, in the name of Asif and Divya's husband VP Ajith. In two years, about 11 crore rupees from the district panchayat fund were given to the carton company for prefabricated toilet constructions alone.

76 lakh construction contract of Padiyoor ABC Center was also awarded. No other company got a single contract. Divya's close friend and Kalliasseri block panchayat president PP Shajir was also accused of involvement in benami transactions.

Legal action will be taken: Divya

PP Divya said that the allegations are false and legal action will be taken against Muhammed Shammas. "This is the fake campaign that the Congress, Youth Congress and leaders have been running against me for the past three months. Prove the allegations," challenged PP Divya.
