MUMBAI: The insurance amount sanctioned to Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan has courted a controversy on social media. Saif had claimed a large amount as insurance for his five-day hospital stay. The insurance company has already approved Rs 25 lakh. Many are asking what excuses the company would have said to reduce the amount if the same situation had occurred to a common man.
Saif's insurance documents were also leaked. Saif had asked a claim of Rs 35,95,700. The actor’s insurance provider is Niva Bupa, a leading company. The hospital bill was Rs 26 lakh. Out of this, the company approved Rs 25 lakh.
Cardiac surgeon Dr Prashant Mishra said that if an ordinary man was in place of Saif, the insurance company's approach would have been different. Mishra, recounting his own experience, said that the company would not have paid more than a maximum of Rs 5 lakh.
Meanwhile, Saif thanked the auto driver who rushed him to the hospital after he was stabbed. The actor had met auto driver Bhajan Singh Rana before he was discharged from the hospital. Saif hugged Rana and thanked him.
Saif's mother and actress Sharmila Tagore also thanked Rana. Saif and Bhajan Singh Rana met at Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital on Tuesday. The meeting lasted for five minutes. The two also took a picture together. Meanwhile, the police recorded Saif's statement after discharged from the hospital.
Saif was stabbed six times by an intruder during a burglary attempt last Thursday morning. The seriously injured Saif was immediately taken to the hospital in Bhajan Singh Rana's auto. The police had arrested the Bangladeshi national who attacked Saif the other day.
