MUMBAI: After a break, India's domestic red-ball tournament, the Ranji Trophy, has started today. Following the poor batting performances in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy earlier this month, senior Indian players had arrived to play in the Ranji Trophy. With the BCCI's intervention, star players, including captain Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, and Yashaswi Jaiswal, have returned to domestic cricket.
Indian captain Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who are part of the Mumbai Ranji team, are playing in the match against Jammu and Kashmir. Jammu and Kashmir stunned Mumbai on the first day with their impressive performance. They dismissed Mumbai for just 120 runs. Fast bowler Umar Nazir Mir, aged 31, was the one who destroyed defending champion Mumbai’s batting line-up.
Indian captain Rohit Sharma (3), Mumbai Ranji team captain Ajinkya Rahane (12), wicketkeeper Hardik Tamore (7), and another Indian player, Shivam Dube (0), were all dismissed by Mir, who took four wickets for just 41 runs. Rohit, Rahane, Dube, and other Indian players struggled against Mir’s accurate and fast bowling. Using his height of 6'4" to full advantage, Mir bowled a brilliant spell to get the wickets.
Having played a key role in dismantling Mumbai, Mir has become a big name on social media and in cricket circles. Fans are now wondering where he has been all this time. Mir made his debut in domestic cricket in 2013 and has since taken 138 wickets in 57 matches. He has also claimed 54 wickets in List A cricket and 32 wickets in T20s. In 2018-19, he earned a spot in the India C team for the Duleep Trophy.
