RAIPUR: Four years after the brutal incident, the court awarded the death penalty to the culprits involved in the gangrape-murder of a 16-year-old girl in Chhattisgarh. The accused had also killed the girl's family members. A fast-track special court in Korba sentenced the accused to death. The court awarded a death sentence to five accused and a life sentence to one. The order belongs to Additional Sessions Judge Mamata Bhojwani.
The incident took place on January 29, 2021. The girl was raped and was smashed with stones to death. The dead body was left in the forest area. The accused killed the victim’s grandfather (60) and her sister who was just four years of age.
The dead bodies were found when the police investigated following a complaint filed by the 60-year-old's son. Santram Majhwar, the main accused in the case, was married. He was attracted to the 16-year-old and asked her to be his second wife. The girl and her family rejected the demand which led to the brutal crime. Santram also took his friends along to commit the crime.
