PALAKKAD: A wild tusker attacked a farmer who tried to scare off the pachyderm from destroying his crops. The incident happened earlier this morning in Walayar. Vijayan reached his farmland during the dawn hours of Saturday after becoming aware of the elephant's presence. Before he could try his trick, the giant rushed towards him and stomped him to the ground. The farmer was then rushed to a private hospital in Thrissur. No further information is available about Vijayan's health condition.

Meanwhile, the forest department will continue its search for the man-eating tiger that attacked and killed a tribal woman in Mananthavady. Chief Wildlife Warden Pramod G Krishnan has issued an order to shoot and kill the man-eating tiger that killed a tribal woman in Pancharakolly in Wayanad.

The order was issued after a special committee, formed in accordance with the Central Government's Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), met and recommended the action. Subsequent actions are being taken in line with the SOP guidelines. The order states that if it is not possible to capture the tiger using traps or tranquillizers and relocate it to a non-populated area, the tiger may be shot.
