The trailer launch of the digitally updated version of Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha, one of the all-time classic films in Malayalam, was held at the office of the Movie Actors Association AMMA. Mohanlal, Mammootty and Suresh Gopi launched the trailer. Vineeth Kumar, Jomol and Ramu, who acted in the film, were present. Shenuga Jayathilak and Sherga Sandeep, the children of the late producer PV Gangadharan, were also present.

'Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha' is one of the outstanding films that Mathrubhumi director and film producer PV Gangadharan, along with MT Vasudevan Nair, Hariharan and Mammootty, presented to Malayalam through Grihalakshmi Productions. His wife Sherin, children Shenuga Jaythilak, Shegna Vigil and Sherga Sandeep and S Cube Films directors also say that it was PV Gangadharan's desire to bring the film to the audience once again by utilizing the visual and audio possibilities of the new era.

The film was a huge success when it first hit the theatres in 1989. Along with Mammootty, the film starred Suresh Gopi, Madhavi, Balan K Nair and Captain Raju in the lead roles. Bombay Ravi composed the music for the film, which was shot by K Ramachandra Babu. Editing was by MS Mani.

Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha was also a film that won several state and national awards. While Mammootty won the National Award for Best Actor, the film also won awards in the categories of Best Screenplay, Best Production Design and Best Costume Design.
