KOLKATA: A case was registered against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for mentioning the death date of iconic freedom fighter Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. The Kolkata Police filed an FIR against Rahul for his social media post in which the congress leader paid homage to Netaji.
Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha filed the FIR at Bhawanipur police station in Kolkata. Following this, the organization held a protest in front of Netaji's house on Elgin Road in South Kolkata. The organization accused Rahul Gandhi of following the old Congress tradition that forced Netaji to quit the party and leave the country.
"Rahul Gandhi and his predecessors tried to erase Netaji from the people's minds. The people of India will punish him." Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha state president Chandrachud Goswami promised strong protest against people trying to erase Netaji's legacy.
In his post, Rahul Gandhi mentioned Subhas Chandra Bose's death date as August 18, 1945. On the same day, the plane carrying Netaji from Saigon in Vietnam to Manchuria, which was then occupied by the USSR, crashed at Taihoku (present-day Taipei). But, no confirmation was reached on Netaji’s death and even the commissions appointed to investigate Netaji's disappearance could not confirm his date of death as 18 August 1945. The disappearance soon turned into lore while copious stories and presumptions on Netaji’s disappearance still find a place on the internet. The mystery continues.
