VALPARAI: An elder woman suffered injuries in a wild elephant attack near Valparai on Monday. Periyar Swamy's wife Annalakshmi (67) was injured in the attack near Edayar estate premises. Annalakshmi, a plantation worker, was caught in front of the elephant who came to consume rice from a nearby ration shop last night. She came out hearing noises from the nearby shop and had no time to react or run away from the pachyderm, which was storming towards her. The wild tusker used its trunk to knock her down. Annalakshmi suffered injuries in her pelvic bone.
More people came out from their houses hearing the commotion and the elephant had to scurry back into the forest. Annalakshmi who was taken to Valparai Hospital has been now shifted to another hospital in Coimbatore.
