Director and producer Alleppey Ashraf has made some revelations about director Unni Aranmula through his YouTube channel. Ashraf disclosed how Unni, who was a high-ranking officer in the military, saw his life fall apart due to his passion for cinema. He also shared what happened when Unni's hospital bills amounting to lakhs of rupees arose.

"Director Unni Aranmula was a close friend of mine. He was a senior officer in the military auditing department and came from a family with a significant financial background. I have observed Unni’s life with admiration. However, his association with filmmakers led him to become deeply passionate about cinema. This passion eventually consumed him and he decided to produce and direct a movie, where he handled everything except acting.

The film, titled Ethirppukal, featured Ratheesh as the lead actor and Mammootty in a supporting role. Midway through, the shooting came to a standstill for some time. By then, Mammootty's market value had risen significantly. It was through this movie that Urvashi made her debut in Malayalam cinema. However, the movie turned out to be a major failure. Following this, Unni faced opposition from his family. Severe financial liabilities forced him to transfer his lands to others’ names.

In an attempt to recover the lost money, Unni resigned from his job and sold his remaining assets to do another film. Unfortunately, that too failed, leaving him in ruins. His life took a sharp downturn, to the point where he struggled even for basic needs like food. During this difficult time, it was Mammootty who came to his aid. Understanding Unni's situation, Mammootty instructed his office to deposit Rs 11,000 into Unni's account on the first of every month. This amount was sent consistently, month after month.

Later, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Unni contracted the virus and was admitted to the hospital. A friend arranged a bystander for him, but this person took advantage of Unni by misusing his ATM card to withdraw the money that Mammootty had sent him. When Unni recovered, his hospital bill amounted to Rs 7 lakh. Mammootty paid the entire amount.

At one point, a television anchor falsely claimed during a show that actor Suresh Gopi had supported Unni all along. In reality, it’s doubtful whether Suresh Gopi even knew Unni. Eventually, Unni passed away in Aranmula," Ashraf said.
